Karl Marx Since the beginning of time, art has been characterized by many different art styles and movements. Many of them are new designs or transformations of existing styles. Multiple art styles in history were the result of efforts by an individual, a group or a brotherhood as well as schools. My attempt is to present the most popular and known art styles as well as their movements and influence. This is my attempt to bring out the most important & known art styles, movements and influences.

When it comes to art history the best term is a style of art which encompasses the European history between the late middle ages, and the dawn of the modern era. The art form that began during the 14th and continued until the 17th centuries. Historians later broke down an art movement in to more than eight different regional types. The term “rebirth” was used to describe a dramatic development in Europe in terms of arts, politics, medicine, and science.

Renaissance! This was the period when personal expression and experience of the world were major themes. Renaissance, which was originally Italian in origin, became known later as one of the major European Art Movements. Renaissance had its own distinct regional movements in Italy and England. It was also identified as a movement from Northern Europe. Early Renaissance was also called High Renaissance. Harlem Renaissance. Northern Renaissance. The term Renaissance is often used today to describe other historical or cultural moments. Carolingian Renaissances and Byzantine Renaissances.

Leonardo da Vinci was a Renaissance icon who embodied the values and ideals of the time through his science, writing, and art. Michelangelo & Raphael also played a vital role in this movement. They produced works that were regarded throughout history as resonating with the classic notion of perfection. Alberti Brunelleschi Bramante are Renaissance architects.

Renaissance Classicism was the seed of two separate movements — Mannerism and Baroque. In a way, Mannerism reacted against the perfectionist ideals of Classicism. Baroque was deliberately curved from the intellectual, amusing qualities of Mannerist Art of the 16th Century to a sense-oriented appeal. Baroque style employed an iconography of directness, simplicity, apparent, and drama.

Baroque style was influenced by Annibale Caracci’s heroic art and other artists, such as Caravaggio. Federico Barocci is sometimes considered ‘proto Baroque. Baroque, although it was replaced in France, in the late-1720s by Rococo architecture, remained the most popular style for decorating interiors and decorative art. Jacques-Louis David (also known as Jacques-Louis Ingres), Canova and other neoclassicists are also well-known.

Neoclassicism did not represent anything other than an opposition to Baroque and Rococo styles, and a wish to return the the purest form of art from ancient Greece and Rome. Neoclassicism represented only the American Renaissance. Romanticism also rejected Enlightenment ideals and Neoclassicist aesthetics. As the Romanticism movements grew, they focused the attention of people on the landscape and the nature. They also gave prominence to the human body and placed the order of nature above the wills or mankind. Hudson River School had a strong Romanticism influence.
